What a racing game is about

A racing game asks one question: who gets round the track first. Speed on the straights matters, but most time is won and lost in the corners, in how late you brake, where you turn in and how early you can be back on the gas. The same ideas that real drivers use, the racing line, braking before the turn and smooth steering, work in a game too, and they are the difference between fifth place and first.

Playing Racing on AllFun

AllFun Racing is seen from above, with the camera turning so the road ahead always points up. It has 16 tracks in four cups: the Midnight Cup on neon streets, the Canyon Cup, the Glacier Cup on ice and the Nebula Cup among the stars. Every race is three laps against five computer drivers.

On a phone, the default Wheel & pedals layout gives you a wheel at the bottom left and GAS and BRAKE at the bottom right; the Simple layout accelerates by itself, and you hold the left or right half of the screen to steer. On a computer, use the arrow keys or WASD, Space to drift and Shift to boost. More fast games are on our arcade games page.

How races and cups work

A race

Six cars start, and the first to complete three laps wins. Walls push you back and turn the car along them, so a clean lap is faster than one that bounces off the edges. Some tracks have ramps, oil and dirt shortcuts.

A championship

On AllFun a cup is four races. Every finish scores points: 10 for a win, then 7, 5, 3, 2 and 1. After the last race, the top three take a trophy, and a trophy opens the next cup. Choose Easy, Medium or Hard rivals; harder ones pay more coins.

Time trials

In a Time trial you race alone against the clock and a ghost car of your best lap. The Daily trial gives everyone the same track and car each day.

Six driving tips

  1. Drive the racing line. Come into a corner from the outside edge, cut to the inside at the apex, and let the car run wide to the outside on the way out. Outside, inside, outside is the widest, fastest arc through a turn.
  2. Brake before the corner, not in it. Slow down while the car is still straight, then turn in. In AllFun Racing, braking while you steer starts a drift, so do it only when you mean to.
  3. Think about the exit. The speed you carry out of a corner lasts all the way down the next straight. A slightly slower entry for a faster exit is usually a good trade.
  4. Drift for boost. On AllFun, press BRAKE while you steer at speed, or keep a turn held in Simple mode, to drift. Drifting fills the boost meter, up to three bars.
  5. Boost on the straights. Each full bar is one burst of speed. Spend it where the road is straight and open, or to pass, not into a corner. Blue arrow pads give a free burst.
  6. Follow your ghost. In a time trial the ghost shows exactly where your best lap was faster. Copy its line one corner at a time.

Cars and the garage

You start in the Sprocket, an all-rounder. Coins from races buy six more cars, from the nimble Pixie to the Nightfin, each with its own speed, handling and drift. A car with more grip forgives a late turn; a fast one with less grip rewards a clean line.

Racing game FAQ

What is the racing line?

The path through a corner that lets you keep the most speed: outside on the way in, inside at the apex, outside again on the way out.

How does drifting work in a racing game?

The rear of the car slides out while you steer, so the car turns tighter without losing much speed. In AllFun Racing a drift also fills your boost meter.

How do I open the next cup?

Finish a cup in the top three on any difficulty. Points come from all four races, so one bad race does not end your chances.

Can I race against friends?

Racing's rivals are computer drivers, and the daily trial lets friends compare times. For a race with friends online, try Moto Rush.
