Five solitaires, five different puzzles

Solitaire is Klondike, the game most people mean by the word: seven piles built down in alternating colours, and four foundations to fill from Ace to King. Spider uses two decks and ten piles, and you set the difficulty by the number of suits: one to learn, two to start planning, four for the full challenge. FreeCell deals all 52 cards face up, so it is nearly all thinking and very little luck. Its deals are numbered from 1 to 1,000,000, so a friend can play the same one.

The other two are quicker. In TriPeaks every card goes to one pile, one higher or one lower in any suit, and each card in a streak scores more than the last. In Pyramid you remove pairs that add up to 13, and a King goes on its own. Both have 72 levels that bring in Wild cards and padlocked cards as you climb, with up to three stars each.

Deals you can win

A lost game should mean there was a better line, not that the cards were against you, so our solver plays the deals first. In Klondike, and in Spider with one or two suits, set Deals to Winnable and you only get deals it has already won. Every FreeCell deal you are given can be won, and its levels say how many free cells a deal needs: two on Easy, three on Medium, all four on Hard. Every TriPeaks and Pyramid level has been won with the cards it gives you.

Each solitaire has a daily deal, the same for everyone, with a crown on the calendar for every day you win it. Hint, Undo, statistics and a choice of card backs and tables come with all five.

Hearts, Spades, Gin Rummy and Crazy Eights with friends

Hearts and Spades seat four. In Hearts you pass three cards, duck the hearts and the 13-point Queen of spades, or take every point and shoot the moon. In Spades you bid your tricks with a partner across the table, and every trick over the bid is a bag. Gin Rummy is for two: build sets and runs, knock with 10 or less, or go Gin for a 25-point bonus. Crazy Eights is a race to empty your hand, with eights wild. Each has Easy, Medium and Hard computer players.

To play people, tap Play with a friend and send the link or the five-character room code. Up to three friends can join a Hearts or Spades table, and any open seat is filled, so two of you can start; the first friend at a Spades table is your partner. Each player sees only their own cards, and the server deals and checks every card. For a game with new people, tap Play Online. More games for two are on our two-player games page.

Questions and answers

Which solitaire is the easiest?

Spider with one suit, or Klondike on Draw 1 with winnable deals. TriPeaks and Pyramid start gently too, since their first levels teach as you play, and an Easy FreeCell deal needs only two of the four free cells.

Can I play card games online with friends?

Yes: Hearts, Spades, Gin Rummy and Crazy Eights. Your friends open the link on their own phone or computer, with no app and no account; the first time, they get a guest name.

Are these card games free?

Yes. The five solitaires never cost coins, and games against the computer are free. An online card game uses 40 play coins; every new player gets 800, and coins have no money value.

Is my game saved if I close the page?

Yes. A solitaire deal is saved on your device as you play, so you can tap Continue later. With a free account your progress follows you to your other devices.

Do they work on a phone?

Yes, on iPhone, Android, tablets and computers. Each lets you pick Portrait or Landscape on a phone.
