What makes a sudoku easy

Every sudoku has the same single rule: each row, each column and each 3×3 box ends up holding 1 to 9 once. What changes between levels is how much thinking the puzzle asks for. Our Easy puzzles start with at least 34 of the 81 cells filled in, and each one is checked by a solver that thinks like a person. A puzzle only counts as Easy when the solver can finish it using the two simplest moves there are. No pencil marks, no patterns, no lucky guesses.

The two moves that solve it

The only number left. Choose an empty cell and cross off every digit that already appears in its row, its column and its box. When a single digit survives, write it in.

The only place left. Choose a digit and one box. Follow each copy of that digit across the grid: it blocks its whole row and column. If just one cell of the box is still free for it, that is where it goes.

Switch between the two whenever you run dry. One filled cell often opens two more, so an Easy grid speeds up as you go.

Easy sudoku on AllFun

Tap a cell, then a number, or pick a number first and tap every cell it belongs in; all its copies light up, so the gaps stand out. Each number on the keypad shows how many are still missing. Stuck on a cell? Hint fills one and says in a sentence why it is right, three times a puzzle for free. Mistakes can be shown in red with three allowed, shown with no limit, or not shown at all, as you prefer in Settings. Your Easy wins, best time and streak are kept apart from the harder levels.

When Easy feels too easy

Try Medium: the same moves, with fewer numbers to lean on, so you hunt longer for each one. After that, Hard sudoku brings in the first real techniques, and Expert sudoku is for when you want a puzzle to fight back. Every technique is explained step by step in our sudoku guide, and more number and logic games wait on the puzzle games page.

Questions

Is easy sudoku good for beginners?

Yes. It is built for learning: every cell can be found with one of two simple checks, and a hint always tells you which check found the number.

Do I need to write notes on Easy?

No. Notes are there if you like them, but an Easy grid never needs them.

Is there a daily easy sudoku?

The daily puzzle changes level through the week, and Monday's is always Easy. It is the same grid for every player that day.
