Our claw machine
Each glass cabinet holds a heap of soft toys we drew ourselves: Ocean Pals, Farm Friends, Space Buddies and Forest Folk, six in every series. Three in each are common, two are rare and one is gold. The Ocean machine is open from the start; the others open as your player level grows, at levels 2, 4 and 6. Every plush you bring home goes on your Prize Shelf, and you can set any plush there as your picture.
How to play
- Steer: push the joystick to move the claw left, right, back and front. You have 15 seconds a try. On a computer, the arrow keys move it too.
- Drop: press DROP (or Space). The claw goes down, closes and lifts.
- Aim for the middle: a claw centred on a plush grips tight. On an ear, a fin or a tail it slips, and a plush with another one lying on top of it hardly moves.
- Bring it home: on the way to the chute the plush sways and can shake loose. Rare and gold plush are heavier and swing more.
A turn is 2 tries in a row on one machine. Tries you have not used stay with that machine, even after you close the page.
How often you win
We tell you straight. After a miss, the game shows how many tries a win takes on average on that machine: about 1 in 7 or 8 for a common plush, 1 in 25 to 29 for a rare one and 1 in 55 to 63 for a gold one, measured over many simulated tries. Every grab follows the same rules for everyone: where the claw closes, how heavy the plush is and how far it has to travel.
Two things help. A Strong grip, a free bonus, lasts a whole turn and about doubles your chance to catch, but it never makes a catch certain. And after 15 misses in a row on a machine, a Lucky grip helps your next well-aimed grab; a win becomes likely, not sure.
Coins and free turns
Every day you get 2 free tries and can collect 120 Daily coins. After that, a turn of 2 tries costs 40 play coins on any machine, and a free bonus can give another turn. A second copy of a plush goes back to the prize desk for coins: 40 for a common, 150 for a rare and 500 for a gold one. Completing a series earns a badge and 1,500 coins.
Tips
- Pick a plush that lies alone near the chute.
- Take your time: a ring shows which plush is under the claw, so move until it sits over the body, not an ear or a tail.
- Leave a plush that has another one on top of it, and skip the ones packed tight between others.
