Our sudoku
Fill the 9×9 grid so every row, every column and every 3×3 box holds the numbers 1 to 9 once each. Every puzzle has exactly one answer, and each is graded by the techniques a person needs to solve it, not just by how many numbers it starts with: an Easy grid falls to simple singles, while Expert asks for patterns like the X-Wing. The solving techniques, step by step, are in our guide to sudoku rules and techniques. Each level also has a page of its own with tips: easy sudoku, hard sudoku and expert sudoku.
How to play
- Place: tap a cell, then a number. Or tap a number first and then every cell it goes in; all cells with that number light up, so gaps are easy to spot.
- Notes: turn on Notes to pencil small candidates into a cell. With Auto-clear notes on, a number you place clears itself from the notes in its row, column and box.
- Fix: Erase empties a cell and Undo takes back any move.
- Keyboard: on a computer, arrow keys move, 1 to 9 place, Backspace erases, N turns notes on and off and H asks for a hint.
The daily sudoku puzzle
Tap Daily for today's puzzle, the same for everyone. The week climbs: Easy on Monday, Medium on Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday, Hard on Thursday and Saturday, and Expert on Sunday. Solve it for a crown on the calendar, keep a streak going, and go back to any day you missed.
Mistakes your way
In Settings, choose how mistakes work. Classic turns a wrong number red, and three mistakes end the game; after the third you can take a Second chance and carry on. Relaxed still shows wrong numbers but has no limit, and Off checks nothing, so you find your own mistakes like on paper. Highlight lines lights up the row, column and box of the cell you pick.
Hints that explain
Hint fills one cell and tells you in a short sentence why that number goes there, so it teaches instead of just giving answers. You get 3 free in every puzzle, and a free bonus gives more. Fewer mistakes and hints earn more stars when you finish. Statistics keeps your wins, best and average times, perfect games and streaks for each level.
Tips
- Start with the number that already appears most often on the grid: it has the fewest places left.
- Use notes on Hard and Expert, and keep them tidy with auto-clear on.
- When a hint names a technique, look for the same pattern elsewhere before you ask again.
