Our darts game
The board faces you, as it does from the throwing line. Press and hold anywhere, below the board is best, and a ring shows where you are aiming. It sways a little like a real hand; hold still and it steadies. Then flick up and let go. A firmer flick flies higher, a softer one drops lower, and a flick to the side pulls the dart that way.
On the home screen pick the Game (501, 301, Cricket or Clock), who you play (Computer, 2 Players or Solo) and the Legs: One leg, Best of 3 or Best of 5. The computer has four players, from Easy to Master: Mako, Pixel, Nova and Vega. You can also choose the colour of your flights.
How the games work
- 501 and 301: each turn of three darts counts down from the start. Finish on exactly zero with a double (the outer ring) or the bull's-eye. Going below zero, landing on 1, or reaching zero without a double is a bust, and the score goes back to where the turn began. When a finish is possible, the game shows a checkout route to aim for.
- Cricket: hit 15 to 20 and the bull three times each to close them. More hits on a number you closed score its value while your rival still has it open.
- Around the Clock: hit 1 to 20 in order, then the bull. First to finish wins.
- On a computer: point with the mouse to aim, then flick the mouse up or press Space. The arrow keys move the aim.
Each leg keeps your stats: the three-dart average and checkout rate in 501 and 301, marks per round in Cricket. Checkout tips and the full rules are in our darts guide, and the 501 page has its checkout routes.
Play darts online with friends
- Tap Play with a friend and type the name your friend will see.
- Choose 501, 301, Cricket or Clock, then tap Create the invite.
- Send the link with Share invite, Copy link or WhatsApp, or read out the five-character room code.
- Your friend opens the link and lands at your board, or types the code under Have a code? and taps Join.
An online game is one leg, and both screens see every dart land in the same place. When it ends, tap Rematch. For a game with someone new, tap Play Online and an opponent is found for you. Sitting together? Pick 2 Players, type both names and pass the phone between turns.
Tips for higher scores
- Wait for the aim to settle before you flick; a rushed throw drifts.
- Keep the same flick every time and move only the aim; that makes your darts land together.
- In 501, leave yourself an even number, such as 32 (double 16) or 40 (double 20).
- Use Challenges and the Daily to practise trebles, doubles and checkouts.
