Our pool game
Lamplight Billiards is played on a full table with six pockets, seen from above. The balls roll, spin and bounce off the cushions with real physics, and potted balls roll into the tray under the table. It works with a finger or a mouse, in portrait or landscape.
On the home screen, Play Online starts a quick game of 8-Ball and vs Computer lets you choose your rival: Mako, Pixel, Nova or Vega, each at Easy, Medium or Hard, and each with a style of their own, from a soft touch to planning two shots ahead. 9-Ball has its own button; play the 9-ball version for its rules and tips. Felts and cues from the Lounge change the look only.
How to play
- Aim: tap the table and the cue points there, tap a ball to aim straight at it, or drag to turn the cue. The ghost ball shows where you will meet the object ball, and the Fine aim wheel makes the smallest changes.
- Power: pull the little cue on the power meter down, further for a harder shot, and let go to strike.
- Spin: tap the cue-ball button to hit low to draw it back, high to follow through, or to one side.
- 8-Ball: pot your group, solids or stripes, then the 8. 9-Ball: hit the lowest ball first; the 9 wins.
After a foul the other player has ball in hand and can place the cue ball anywhere. Against the computer each shot has 30 seconds. For the full rules, fouls and five tips, read our 8-ball and 9-ball guide.
Play 8-ball and 9-ball pool online with friends
- Tap Play with a friend and type the name your friend will see.
- Choose 8-Ball or 9-Ball, then tap Create the invite.
- Send the link with Share invite, Copy link or WhatsApp, or read out the five-character room code.
- Your friend opens the link and lands at your table, or types the code under Have a code? and taps Join.
You both see every shot as it is played, and each shot has 45 seconds. When the game ends, tap Rematch. For a game with someone new, tap Play Online and an opponent is found for you.
Trick Shots and the Rack Run
Trick Shots are 100 set-up puzzles of banks, kicks, combinations and draw shots, each with up to three stars; clear one and the next is free. The Rack Run is the daily challenge: the same ten balls for everyone, cleared in as few shots as you can, with a streak for every day you play.
Tips to run more balls
- Think about where the cue ball stops, not only the ball you pot.
- Use less power than you think; soft shots are easier to control.
- In 9-Ball, look for a combination that sends the 9 in early.
Questions
Is this pool game free?
Yes. It runs in your browser with no download and no sign-up. A game uses 40 play coins, and every new player gets 800 coins to start; coins are free and have no money value. How coins work.
Can I play 9-ball online?
Yes, with a friend: pick 9-Ball on the invite card. Play Online, the quick match, is 8-Ball.
Do better cues help me win?
No. Every felt and cue plays exactly the same; they change the look of your table only.
What if a player leaves an online game?
The table waits. A player away for more than 90 seconds loses, and the one who stayed wins.
